SURPLUS Equity Partners is an investment and asset manager with a focus on real assets and enabling technologies.

 

Real Estate

We consider real assets holistically and always with a focus on a sufficiently diversified portfolio. Hence we invest in different property classes and in different risk/return profiles.

Infrastructure

Today we face great ecological challenges. We are convinced that investments should make an important contribution to climate protection and sustainability. With our investment strategy, we provide capital to advance ecologically valuable technologies such as renewable energy and water treatment.

Enabling Technologies

Technology and innovation allow us to invest successfully. We create sustainable value in the core areas of real estate and infrastructure, but also with our direct investments in young companies. Whether investment sourcing or portfolio management - enabling technologies allow us to increase efficiencies along the entire value chain.

SURPLUS supports the development of a modern office space of approx. 30,000 m² with a focus on ‘new work’.

Together with a long-standing and experienced project partner, we are successfully developing 14 onshore wind farms at several locations in Germany.

Lars Kreutzmann

Founding Partner
Managing Partner

Lars is a founding partner and managing partner of SEP. He has almost 20 years of experience in real estate and private equity and has invested more than € 5 billion in over 50 transactions in these areas.

Before founding SEP, he was “Head Private Real Estate Europe” and was responsible for the European real estate investment business at Partners Group, a private market investment manager with more than € 120 billion AUM. In this role he was a member of the Real Estate Investment Committee, which made decisions on transactions in Europe, the USA and Asia. Prior to Partners Group, Lars held senior positions at Lenwood Capital, Elystan Capital and Lehman Brothers.

Lars holds an MBA from INSEAD and is a CFA charterholder.

Sebastian A. Lüdke

Sebastian is a founding partner and managing partner of SEP. He has almost 10 years of experience in real estate, investment banking and private equity.

Before founding SEP, he worked as an investment professional at Partners Group, a private market investment manager with more than € 120 billion AUM. Before that he was Principal Investors & Private Equity Consultant at the Boston Consulting Group in Munich and an Analyst Mergers & Acquisitions at UBS Investment Bank in London.

 

Sebastian holds a BSc (Hons) in Business Studies from Cass Business School and an MPA from Columbia University & London School of Economics and Political Science.

David Esau

Investment Manager

David has more than 7 years of experience in real estate, investment banking, private equity and venture capital. Before joining SEP, he worked as an investment professional at Surplus Invest, a PropTech venture capital investor. Before that, he worked in portfolio management at PGIM and as an associate at the investment bank Lazard in Frankfurt.

David holds a BSc in Business Administration from the WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management and an MSc in Finance and Computer Science from the Technical University of Munich.

Antonius Hufnagel

Junior Associate

Antonius has more than 4 years of experience in the areas of real estate, family office and consulting. Before joining SEP as an investment professional, he worked as a Financial Analyst & Family Office Liaison at International Capital LLC. in the USA and as an associate at a family office in Bayreuth / London.

He holds a BSc (Hons) in International Politics from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and an MSc (Merit) in Entrepreneurship, Finance & Innovation from Loughborough University.

Franziska has more than 5 years experience in  the field of Real Estate Private Equity Investments in Asia- Pacific and Project Management. Before she joined the SEP team as an Investment Analyst she undertook several development projects in Australia and Japan and worked as a Property Manager in Sydney.

She holds a BSc in Property Economics from the University of Technology Sydney.

Gabriel Neumann

Gabriel supports the investment team, in particular in real estate projects, and can draw on his initial experience in project development. He is enrolled as a student at the University of Mannheim in the BSc Business Administration.

Kerstin Lippuner

Assistant
 

Kerstin is the person of contact for the administration of the investment companies and looks after the commercial side of the SEP projects in particular. She also supports the management with a focus on infrastructure.

Marlena Büschl

Investment Manager

Marlena has more than 4 years of experience in venture capital and consulting. As an investment professional, she is responsible for the portfolio of Surplus’s technology investments. Before joining Surplus, Marlena gained experience in investment banking and consulting in London, New York and Hong Kong. Marlena holds a BSc in Business Administration and Computer Science from the Technical University of Munich and a Masters in Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Meral supports the management team in operational issues and draws on many years of experience in the field.

René Giese

Associate

René has more than four years of experience in start-up development, investment banking and consulting. As Investment Associate, René’s focus is on infrastructure investments. Prior to joining Surplus Equity Partners, he was a Corporate Finance & Strategy Professional at Pacifico Renewables Yield AG, where he was in charge of the company’s stock listing and the execution of its growth strategy.

René holds a B.Sc. in Business Administration & Economics and M.Sc. in Finance from the University of Hohenheim.


Sabine Rödig-Brauch

Sabine has over 25 years of experience in alternative investments and fund-of-fund investments as well as in product structuring and capital raising. She has accompanied important SEP partners since it was founded in 2008 and thus supports the development and expansion of SEP as an important authority and with its network.

Therés Becker

Culture & PR Manager

Therés has almost 10 years of experience as an Executive Assistant & Event Manager as well as over 2 years of experience in PR. Before joining SEP, she worked as a PR & Event Manager at wayra (Open Innovation Hub of Telefónica/O2), where she independently planned and carried out events.

She also worked for the Boston Consulting Group for 6 years as an Assistant to the management & in internal event management.

Therés completed studies to become a Multilingual Management Assistant with focus on English, Spanish, Italian at the Europa-Institut in Reutlingen.
